Mars Hill Pond

Cackling Goose
Mars Hill Pond is one of several promising waterfowl ponds close to Route 1. It is especially noteworthy in mid-autumn during waterfowl migration. A small park at the outlet dam in the center of town provides good views. Besides Canada geese, this pond is a good bet for rare geese, notably cackling and greater white-fronted. Breeding ring-necked ducks, mallards, and wood ducks, gather with a smattering of migrating blue-winged and green-winged teal.

Directions: Turn onto Route 1A in the center of Mars Hill. Look for an immediate entrance to the park behind the American Legion.
