Arnold Brook is another interesting site, reached by a continuation of the drive from Aroostook State Park. The route passes a historical marker on the launch site of the first successful trans-Atlantic balloon flight, completed in 1978. A dike impounds Arnold Brook, creating a significant pond of reliable depth, ideal for migrating waterfowl. A secluded community park provides both boat access and a lakeside picnic area.
Directions: From downtown Presque Isle, turn west onto Chapman Street. After a few miles, turn left onto Niles Rd. The park entrance is less than a mile ahead, but the sign is removed in winter. Continue along this route to reach Spragueville Road and Aroostook State Park. From Aroostook State Park, follow Spragueville Road to Niles Road.
